With 32 years in documentary and wildlife film-making, few cinematographers have Richard Kirby’s wealth and diversity of principal photography credits.  From high-end television programmes, feature films and commercials ranging in scope and style from Peter Greenaway’s ‘A Zed and Two Noughts’, BBC feature films ‘Deep Blue’ and ‘Earth’ to the television series’ ‘The Private Life of Plants’ ‘Wild Africa’, ‘Human Planet’  and ‘The Monkey Thieves’.

Much of his work has required the development of new filming techniques and in January 2000 he established Timeframe Productions to develop innovative systems for time-lapse and motion control photography. Shooting entirely on 35mm format,  Timeframe Productions has shot numerous award winning sequences for television, features and commercials confirming it's place at the cutting edge of the industry.  The extensive library now housed at Timeframehd.com

Richard now shoots in HD and Super HD formats for the world's major broadcasters. Recent credits include, 'Wonders of the Monsoon' 'Atlantic' ’Human Planet’ and ‘How Earth Made Us’ for the BBC and multi-award winner ‘The Monkey Thieves’ for Off the Fence Productions and National Geographic. He recently directed and filmed a critically acclaimed thirteen part series ‘Wildest Africa’ for The Discovery Channel and now spends as much time developing his own ideas as he does filming them. His controversial ‘Chimps – The Dark Side’  for National Geographic, followed the highly acclaimed epic BBC series ‘Nile’, both of which were a unique blend of drama, history, documentary and wildlife. ‘Chimps – The Dark Side” was Britain’s biggest selling production of 2006.

Richard has just completed 2 years filming a cinema feature about the wildlife and landscape of Colombia. He is now back in the studio working on new ways of filming micro worlds returning to his passion for technical time-lapse. Google+
